RRR came, saw and conquered at the Golden Globes. SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster won Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu, one of the two categories it was nominated in. Accepting the award, composer MM Keeravani said he was thrilled by the track’s global success.
It missed out in the Best Non-English Language Film which was won by Argentina, 1985 from Argentina. Other nominees in the category include All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany), Close (Belgium), Decision to Leave, (South Korea).
RRR is being represented at the Golden Globe Awards by its director and stars – SS Rajamouli, Jr NTR and Ram Charan who is accompanied by wife Upasana Kamineni.
Jr NTR and Ram Charan play freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Seetharamaraju in the period drama, set in the British-occupied India of the 1920s. The cast includes Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn as well as British actors Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Olivia Morris.
The entire nation is celebrating the win of ‘Naatu Naatu’ at the Golden Globe Awards 2023. The foot-tapping number from ‘RRR’ bagged the honour after competing with Taylor Swift’s ‘Carolina’ and ‘Hold My Hand’ from ‘Top Gum: Maverick’ among others. Bollywood celebrities showered the film with love for its huge international success.
Alia Bhatt posted a series of hearts in reaction to the film’s win. Kareena Kapoor Khan also hailed the film’s success and wrote, “Congratulations, Team RRR!!” Karan Johar penned, “Absolutely thrilled and filled with pride as #NaatuNaatu from #RRR brings home a prestigious Golden Globe Award!! Congratulations to the whole team, this is incredible for the entirety of Indian cinema!”
Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur tweeted, “Congratulations @ssrajamouli and the music team of #RRR for winning best song at the #GoldenGlobes2023 for #natunatu .. you won against songs by Rihanna , Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. So be proud of what you have achieved.”
Where everyone is congratulating, how can A.R.Rahman and Jr NTR stay behind, they also congratulated through the post on twitter.
RRR, which made over ₹ 1,200 crore globally, has already won a slew of international honours including Best Director for Rajamouli at the New York Film Critics Circle awards. RRR has submitted itself for consideration in various Oscar categories as well and is expected to be nominated in at least one category if not more.
The Golden Globes are being held in Los Angeles with comedian Jerrod Carmichael as host. The awards return to the Hollywood mainstream after making internal reforms following criticism of its allegedly racist and sexist voting practices.
Last year’s Golden Globes were boycotted by NBC, which broadcasts the show, and many of Hollywood’s big stars led by Tom Cruise who returned his three Globes.
