Rajkummar Rao plays a police officer in Anubhav Sinha’s Bheed which released in theatres on Friday, March 24. While promoting the film, based on true events, the actor addressed rumours of him going through plastic surgery to alter his appearance. He denied going under the knife and said he can only smile about it when asked about such things.
The actor made his film debut with a small role in Ram Gopal Varma’s Rann (2010) and later was selected as one of the leads in Dibakar Banerjee’s Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010). In previous interactions with the media Rajkummar had spoken up about often being rejected as a hero, because of his looks, height and even build. Once he was rejected due to the shape of his eyebrow.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, the actor was shown a comment from Reddit which stated, “Has Rajkummar Rao undergone plastic surgery?” Rajkummar denied that he underwent any plastic surgery and instead said, “Nahi bhaiyya, koi plastic surgery nahi hue (No, there was no plastic surgery).” The actor was further asked about his reaction to such rumours and he replied, “Kuch nahi smile aati hai chehre pe. Nice, log baat kar rahe hai (Nothing, I just smile. People are talking).”
In 2013, he won the National Film Award for Best Actor for the biopic Shahid, directed by Hansal Mehta. He played lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi, who was assassinated in 2010 in Mumbai. Last year, he was praised for his performance as a closeted police officer in Badhaai Do.
The actor was last seen in the Vasan Bala neo-noir thriller Monica O My Darling with Huma Qureshi, Radhika Apte, Sikandar Kher and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor. It was released on November 11, 2022 on Netflix.
He will also be seen in the Dharma Productions film Mr And Mrs Mahi with Janhvi Kapoor and he stars as industrialist Srikanth Bolla in his biopic Sri, which is due out later this year.
He is also starring in Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s upcoming period drama series Guns & Gulaabs. Dulquer Salmaan and Adarsh Gourav are also part of the Netflix series.
